Why LightForce 3D printed braces are ideal for teens

Why LightForce 3D printed braces are ideal for teens

Adolescence is the ideal time for orthodontics care because the jaws are still developing and teeth can be more easily guided into alignment. LightForce braces are popular with teens because the clear or tooth-colored materials blend with their appearance, for modern treatment that’s as effective as it is discreet.

LightForce braces are created from digital intraoral scans of the teeth to fit each unique shape. This precision allows for better control of tooth movement and 30-40% shorter treatment duration than old-school metal braces!

Our 3D printed braces for teens not only address crowding, gaps, and bite problems but also lay the foundation for long-term oral health. Early correction helps prevent future dental complications, meaning braces are an investment in both a teen’s health and their self-esteem.

Frequently asked questions

For teens:

How long do 3D printed braces teens take?

Most teens complete braces in 12–24 months, depending on the complexity of the orthodontic issue. LightForce 3D-printed braces can shorten treatment for many patients by 30-40%. At your complimentary exam, Dr. Lynskey will let you know when to expect your braces to come off and what your new smile will look like.

LightForce braces use 3D-printed brackets that are attached with a dental adhesive that is specially formulated for orthodontic use and safe for your teeth. When applied and removed properly by an expert orthodontist like Dr. Lynskey, it will not damage the tooth enamel.

While some initial soreness or tightness may occur as your teeth begin to move, this means your teeth are shifting and creating your beautiful new smile! The discomfort usually fades after a day. You can use an over-the-counter pain reliever if needed, but most teens manage without it. Most LightForce 3D printed braces patients also find them less uncomfortable and generally easier than metal braces.

For parents and teens:

How do I know if my teen needs braces?

Signs that your teen may need braces include crooked or crowded teeth, difficulty biting or chewing, noticeable gaps, and misaligned bites such as overbites or underbites. If you observe these issues or if your teen experiences jaw discomfort or shifting teeth, it’s a good idea to come see us for a free evaluation.

Orthodontic issues usually show up early, and the American Association of Orthodontists recommends orthodontic treatment starts around age seven, when adult teeth begin to emerge. If you suspect your teen may have an orthodontic issue, book their complimentary assessment here. Kids love visiting our office, and we’ll explain everything to you, jargon-free!

Actually, no. At Lynskey Orthodontics, we do not charge our patients more for our custom LightForce braces. In fact, because of the additional appointments required for metal braces and longer overall treatment times, metal braces end up costing more.
Teens with braces typically need to see their orthodontist every six to eight weeks. However, our LightForce patients are enrolled in our remote DentalMonitoring program, which allows us to see their progression in a 30-second scan from home using a smartphone. From these scans, we can monitor treatment and schedule in-office visits at just the right time. This digital orthodontics approach eliminates unnecessary visits and can reduce the overall treatment time.

While both approaches are excellent, there are reasons to choose 3D printed braces over Invisalign for teens:

If you’re unsure which is right for your teen, book a free consultation. Dr. Lynskey is also an expert in Invisalign, and she can help you determine whether LightForce 3D printed braces or Invisalign are the best fit for your teen’s dental needs and lifestyle.
